Hairdressing
Co-Ordinator: Mrs F, Taliep
The main aim of the Hairdressing Course is to train unemployed people and school leavers in hairdressing skills, thus contributing towards job creation and poverty alleviation.
The hairdressing course is over a period of eight Mondays between 9.00am – 12.30 pm. Fifty-five trainees have successfully completed their hairdressing training with CAFDA. Our hairdressing course has attracted women from as far as Namibia. We have women of all ages attending our classes. The more matured women find that they have to empower themselves and need to be independent.
We have a new hairdressing trainer/facilitator, Zainap Gaffoor, a former trainee of the Cafda Hairdressing class. This was a stepping stone for her. Thereafter she completed a recognised Hairdressing Course at UNISA. Now she has come back to Cafda to share her knowledge with the community.
Zainap says that since the age of fourteen her dream was to do hairdressing. She is now the proud owner of a salon in Wynberg.
We had eighteen trainees on the course. As the facilitator, Zainap gave the trainees one-on-one training. They concentrated on the cutting of hair and tinting. She encouraged them to ask questions for the benefit of the whole class.
Zainap has gone the extra mile to approach her suppliers to sell hairdryers and other products to the trainees at a very reasonable price, as a kick start to open their own hairdressing business on completion of the course.
The facilitator advised her trainees to always treat the customer with respect and to make them feel comfortable and to do their best at all times; because a happy client will come back and that is how you build up your clientele. She advised the trainees to stay focused and to have a passion for what they are doing in order to be successful.
Success Stories:
- Christella Collier’s father-in-law converted her garage into a hairdressing salon and sponsored her with all the necessary equipment.
- Mariam Khan and her daughter, Shireen, both did the hairdressing course and opened their own hairdressing salon in Belgravia Road, Athlone.
- Zenodine Rickets who completed both the hairdressing and cosmetics course is going to open a beauty salon in Namibia.
