Ironing Project

The aim of the ironing project is to provide job opportunities to unemployed people.
Focus Areas
- Skills development for unemployed.
- Create economic empowerment to the unemployed through income generating projects such as this.
- To provide a counter performance to alleviate the dependency syndrome on food-aid relief.
Output
- Ironing is done on a daily basis.
- 20 unemployed women were trained in the skill of ironing.
- 200 loads of washing of public households were ironed at the project.
Recruitment of Candidates
Referral basis: Social Workers refer candidates to the project to alleviate unemployment. The community also refers people to the project.
Marketing
Advertisements are done through local newspapers; through word of mouth advertising, posters are displayed at libraries.
Operation of Project
The service operates on a daily basis:
(Monday – Fridays: 09h00 – 16h00)
The service operates on a drop and collect basis. Customers provide their own hangers.
Outcome
Through the finance generated employees are able to contribute their family’s income.
Through the Ironing Project many of the ironers were placed in jobs by either doing domestic work or working for C.M.T. businesses.
