Merchandise Store

Store supervisor: Jenny Fernandez

Appreciation and thanks

The past year has been very successful in many ways. We have managed to reach our target every month. I wish to thank my staff as well as the volunteers who assist in the store on a daily basis. Without their assistance we would not be able to maintain the store and keep it tidy and clean.

A special thank you to all who assisted at the store on Special Sale days.

We also wish to thank the following organisations/companies who donate goods on a regular basis.

  • Shoprite – Bothasig & Strand
  • C.K.S.A
  • Ellen Arthur
  • Tokai Bookshoppe
  • Ottery Hypermarket
  • Ina Paarman

General

We have introduced a Saturday Sale on a quarterly basis which has been a great success. Amounts raised are as follows:

September 2007 R 4 500.00
December 2007 R 7 000.00
March 2008 R10 000.00

Appeal for support

We appeal for donations of bedding, towels, blankets and curtains as there is a huge demand for these items. We would like to attract more customers to our shop however the merchandise store is in dire need of a make-over. Any donations in the area of paint and renovations would be appreciated.

Helping others in need

All clothing and furniture not sold over a period of time are taken to informal settlements such as Vrygrond, Mpumlani, Capricorn and Langa for distribution amongst the needy.

Exposing the tenants to Business Skills Training, including matters such as Compliance to Lease Agreement. (Accountability for lease payments)

CAFDA is experiencing a growth curve through exposure of staff and Executive members to Cape Town Tourism.

We are encouraging members to take advantage of programmes run by Local Authority such as Tourism Awareness workshops and other skills training.

The crafters are introduced to other Craft Markets in and around CapeTown, to expose them to other competitors in the market place so that they can compare the standard and quality of goods available.

We sponsor the crafters transport and hiring costs of market sites.

Impact on community

Individuals in the community have an opportunity to become part of this project by applying for a lease agreement to rent premises from CAFDA, which is renewable on an annual basis. In so doing CAFDA affords the community an opportunity to start and run their own business.
