The major objective
of the CAFDA Place of Safety is to provide security, stability and stimulation
to traumatised children who are victims of child abuse, abandonment
and neglect.
The children usually remain at the Place of Safety for between six and 12
weeks, but in some cases severely traumatised children have stayed for six
months. When they leave the Place of Safety they may be returned to their home
situation, placed in foster care or some other kind of more permanent situation.
These children leave the Place of Safety feeling more confident about their
future and less traumatised. Therefore they are better prepared to be placed
back into the community and build a better life. The Place of Safety annually
accommodates up to 100 children.
A qualified housemother provides daily care-giving in a loving, secure and
healthy environment to the children. Nutritious meals are provided and educational
outings arranged to stimulate the children.
