MEC Alan Winde visit to the CAFDA Skills Training Centre
The MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Alan Winde visited the CAFDA Skills Training Centre at the Grassy Park site of CAFDA on Thursday,24 April 2014.
Minister Winde's whistle stop visit included visits to the various vocational classes that include hairdressing, welding and electrical training. He also utilised this opportunity to address the learners on issues such as entrepreneurship, job opportunities, gain full and sustainable employment and the formation of cooperatives.
He was moreover impressed with the standard of teaching at the facility and we engaged him on the importance of the SETA Accreditation initiative of the facility, which was an issue that found favour with him and he gave us the assurance that we can call on his office for any assistance in this regard.
We also took him on a tour of the Stables building, specifically to discuss the tourism issue. He however pointed out that the facility would be better suited as an Interactive Community Access Network centre (ICAN) or Digital Access Centre (DAC). The establishment of such a facility at CAFDA will coincide with the World Design Capital 2014 aims, which is to make Cape Town the most connected city in Africa.
The spin-off of such a facility would be that learners will be able to utilise the facility as a study resource space, local residents will be able to further their ICT training and local entrepreneurs will have an opportunity to grow their business ideas.
