Short History of Cafda
Where did start
The history of Cafda, beginning with its first committee meeting in June 1944, is a tale of triumph over overwhelming adversity. The conditions in the 1940's and 1950's for the people of the Cape flats during the Cape winters were appalling and inhumane.
In this situation stepped individuals starting with Miss Mary Atllee and those who followed like Dr Oscar Wollheim, David Findling and others. What a difference they made to the lives of this deprived community.
The fight against adversity, without adequate resources such as finance, shelter and people, was made worse by the political bureaucratic inertia of the day. |
